What information does GDPR apply to?
GDPR applies to any information that can be linked to the identity of a living person directly or indirectly. This relates to first name, last name, email address etc but now extends to reclassify items such as IP address as personally identifiable information as this allows unscrupulous companies to link your activity from one website to another and can therefore result in marketing activities that would be considered intrusive. This greater understanding of the collection of data strengthens users’ rights regarding the storage, and usage of their personal data online.
Personal data fields include:
- Name
- Photo
- Mobile number
- Email address
- Physical address
- Any geo-location data
- IP address
- behavioural and demographic profiling data
- mobile device identifiers
- biometric data (fingerprint, face, retina scans etc
- Profiling, sales and analytics data
- Online Behaviour (Cookies)
GDPR also applies to sensitive personal data, including any data held relating to: - Health status
- Sexual orientation
- Political views
- Religious belief
- Behavioural data
- Financial data
- Biometric data
